What is the process for creating a custom hat?
During a 1:1 video consultation call we will discuss all of the details for creating your one-of-a-kind custom hat. Once a design has been set, I will get to work sourcing the materials and making your hat. During our consultation we will go over:
Materials (rabbit and beaver fur felts vs. straw hats)
Hat shapes and styles
Brim shapes and styles
Color
Hat size
Sweatband style
Embellishments and finishing touches.
How long does it take to make a hat?
Depending on the type and color of fur felt or straw selected, it may take up to 30 days or more to source the materials to create your custom hats. After your initial 1:1 consultation call, I will keep you to date on any timelines for ordering the raw materials needed to create your hat. After all of the raw materials have been acquired, it currently may take up to 2 weeks to create your hat, including embellishments and finishing touches. Please note that some embroidery designs may take longer depending on their complexity.
Do you offer ready-to-wear hats?
From time to time we will offer ready-to-wear hats available for immediate purchase and you can find this on our shop page. All ready-to-wear hats will ship next business day, unless otherwise noted.
What kind of materials do you use?
For fur felt hats we offer 100% rabbit or 100% beaver. Upon request, we can also offer 50/50 rabbit beaver blend or 100% coypu (nutria). We do not use wool in any of our designs. For straw hats we currently offer Ecuadorian palm.
How do I determine my hat size?
Use a fabric tape measure (or piece of string) to measure the circumference of your head just above your ears where your hat would typically sit. Don’t make it too tight or too loose — you want it to be comfortable. For a more precise fit, take the measurement in centimeters. Don’t forget that fur felt hats will shape and mold to your head over time!
